I was also trying to somehow work in the phrase "Rosebud is a <a href="http://www.cknow.com/ckinfo/s/SLED-SingleLargeExpensive.html" rel="nofollow">SLED!,</a>" but perhaps that's better left for a discussion, à la Lev Manovich, of the computer's role in film editing. Of course, not <i>every</i> artist, game developer, etc. will be interested in <i>Mechanisms,</i> but for those expressing an interest in what's up with current new media scholarship, it provides a great example. I'm particularly interested that you recommend the book to "humanists, writers, artists, curators, game developers . . ." There's a lot in there for different audiences (not necessarily a virtue), and I'll be curious to see what sticks and with who. I've been looking forward to the arrival of <i>Mechanisms</i> since I offered Matt some non-anonymous feedback on a version of the manuscript. I also agree that <i>Mechanisms</i> heralds an important moment for our field -- demonstrating things that can be gained by taking elements such as the versions of software and the specifics of hardware seriously. We've arrived at an exciting time. I agree whole-heartedly. I’ve been looking forward to the arrival of Mechanisms since I offered Matt some non-anonymous feedback on a version of the manuscript.
